Drake | closer to my dreams | ok my cuzzin actually put this song on her tumblr and had a good question , there is a line in here that Drake spits(“Surrounded by Filipinos, I think of the Worst Case”) and when you hear it , you feel like he is disrespecting Filipinos.well i got the answer to it.an emcee from Minnesota(young son) cleared it up and here is his explaination.coincidentally he goes by a new emcee name , “Mike Dreams”? and if you are from the Bay Area , you know we got a Mike Dream! RIP Mike Dream.so there is only one Mike Dream to me and you cant replace him! ya feel!! also the beat is taken from Goapele’s song “closer”.anyways read and let me know how you feel about it. thanks Leah!!
“Surrounded By Filipinos, I Think Of “The Worst Case”?
by mikedreamsmusicI’ve been a Drake fan since the beginning of 2007. I’m sure most of you guys know that by now. I came across his “Comeback Season” mixtape that summer (and eventually went back and listened to “Room For Improvement”). A song over Goapele’s “Closer” called “Closer To My Dreams” featuring Andreena Mills. It’s easily my favorite Drake track, simply because of it’s presence and introspective lyrics.
There was a line featured on the song that some people found questionable: “Surrounded by Filipinos, I think of the Worst Case”
(line comes at the 1:00 mark)
Today, I finally was brought to the light on the clarification to the meaning of the line.
For people wondering about the line: “Surrounded by Filipinos, I think of the worst case:
“The Worst Case” actually refers to a book called “The Worst-Case Scenario: Travel Handbook For The Philippines. Drake’s line was a play on words. It actually was a pretty dope metaphor and punchline. Filipinos can now rest their misconceptions about Drake’s feelings towards their race…lol. Shoot…the man is Black and Jewish, two of the most oppressed races in history. He CAN’T be racist! That would be dumb…lol.
HEY, THE MORE YA KNOW!
If You Don’t Know, Now Ya Know!
Closer To My Dreams- Drake ft. Andreena Mills (originally by Goapele)
I was listening to this song and a certain part caught my attention and made me think about what he said.. I’m still confuse about this part (0:50-1:08)..
“First place is often the worst place
But f*** it I love it here
I call it my birthplace
Whenever I walk in they makin’ the worst face
Surrounded by Filipinos I think of the worst case
Watch chrome green diamonds I call it the earth face
I’m gettin’ ya cake I tell you how ya dessert taste
I get a dessert plate
Y’all eat pedigree as ya meal”
The lines “surrounded by Filipinos I think of the worst case” and “y’all eat pedigree as ya meal”? Can somebody explain cause i’m hearing this as offensive?
haha.. hmmm?? B/

An anti-energy drink that slows you down.. This is a popular drink in Houston, Texas, also where it was created/originated from. Being that Houston has a huge hip-hop scene the name Drank originated from the slang term “Purple Drank” (“illegal concoction that mixes codeine syrup with soft drinks or alcohol”). This drink has boosted 7-eleven’s sales and so with that big of sales it has for the store this drink will soon eventually be sold at every 7-eleven in the country. The industry has been contacted by very well known stores (i.e. walgreens, safeway, target, costco, etc..). The ingredients in Drank: Melatonin, Valerian root, and rose hips. (“Melatonin is a hormone that is sometimes used to treat insomnia and jet lag. A medicinal herb, valerian root relaxes the central nervous system and can quell anxiety. The rose hips provide antioxidants.”) But the problem with this drink is that it can be bought by anybody. any age can buy this drink. Is this crazy? Would you buy this drink? would you let your young family member or their friends drink this?
